Group Size Policy for Kayak Rentals

At Kailua Beach Adventures, we strive to provide an enjoyable and sustainable experience for all our customers and our community. To ensure compliance with state regulations and maintain positive relations with the local community, we limit our rental groups to a maximum of 8 people. For larger groups, please book separate reservations at different times and plan to launch, land, and enjoy your day at a different pace from the others in the second group.

Why We Limit Group Sizes

  1. State Permitting Process We live in a beautiful place. The state of Hawaii has strict regulations regarding commercial activities in certain areas, especially environmentally sensitive regions like Kailua Bay and its offshore islands. Our permits allow us to operate in compliance with these regulations, which include limitations on the number of people in each group per time slot. By adhering to these guidelines, we can help ensure that we will be able to continue to operate in the future.

  2. Minimizing Environmental Impact Smaller groups reduce the impact on the delicate marine and coastal ecosystems. By limiting group sizes, we help manage our footprint, helping to protect the coral reefs, marine life, culture, and beach environments that make Kailua so special. This not only preserves these areas for future visitors but also maintains the natural habitat for the local wildlife.

  3. Community Relations The local community is integral to the charm and appeal of Kailua and all of Hawaii. Overly large groups can lead to traffic congestion and disturbances that detract from the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by both residents and visitors. By keeping group sizes a manageable size, we respect the local residents and foster a more harmonious relationship with the community.

  4. Protecting Wildlife Kailua Bay is home to important seabird sanctuaries, diverse and unique marine life, and fragile ecosystems. Kailua is the critical home to various bird species, endangered seals, turtles, and numerous other animals and plants. Large groups can disrupt these ecosystems and animals, causing undue stress to this important environment and the species that call this island home. By limiting the size of our groups, we help manage the disruption of these critical animals and plants.

  5. Preserving the Beaches The beaches of Kailua Bay are renowned for their pristine condition and natural beauty. Large groups can lead to overcrowding and increased litter, which detracts from the experience for everyone. By limiting the size of our groups, we help maintain the cleanliness and tranquility of the beaches, ensuring that they remain enjoyable for all visitors and that the beaches do not get overrun.

Benefits for Our Guests

Adhering to these group size limits benefits our guests in several ways:

  • Enhanced Experience: Smaller groups mean a more personal and intimate experience. You can enjoy the natural beauty of Kailua Bay without feeling crowded or rushed.

  • Less Environmental Impact: By reducing our footprint, we help ensure that the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems you come to see remain unspoiled.

  • Better Wildlife Encounters: Smaller, quieter groups are less likely to disturb local wildlife, increasing your chances of seeing seabirds, marine life, and other natural wonders up close.

Booking for Larger Groups

If your party consists of more than 8 people, please note the following:

  • Separate Reservations Required: Divide your group into smaller parties and book separate reservations for different times.

  • Staggered Launch Times: The separate groups will not be allowed to go out together simultaneously. This helps distribute the activity more evenly and prevents overcrowding at any given time.

How to Book

  1. Determine Group Sizes: Split your larger group into smaller parties of 8 or fewer people.

  2. Make Multiple Reservations: Book separate reservations for each smaller group, ensuring different launch times.

  3. Plan Your Day: Coordinate your group's schedule to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience without exceeding group size limits. If you are going out as 2 separate groups, we suggest you plan your day so that each group has their own unique experience out on the islands.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and kokua in adhering to these guidelines. By working together, we can ensure a sustainable and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Kailua and its offshore islands.
