Kailua offers ideal boogie boarding conditions for children and beginners of all ages. All larger ocean swells break on the outer reef. Only smaller waves make it over this natural barrier and form a nice shore break wave that breaks on to Kailua’s sandy beach. Everybody in Kailua started their surfing life riding the shore break on a boogie board! Body boarding is one of the easiest Hawaiian water sports to learn and yet can be taken to the highest levels of big wave and aerial surfing. Start body boarding on one of Kailua’s medium sized waves that’s comfortable for you. Next, try leaning left and right to steer the board and keep spinning for 180’s! For larger, faster breaking waves, the North end of Kailua Beach is the place to be. Kalama’s, Flagpole’s and Kai One, among other spots can offer some of the better waves for boogie boarding in Hawaii. Boogie boards can be rented for a half day (four hours), full day (24 hours) or use them all week with our multi-day rates.
