Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & Policies
+ Do I need to be able to swim in order to rent or go on a kayak tour?
Yes. You don't have to be a great swimmer but you should feel comfortable enough to swim back to your kayak with the help of a life preserver (PFD). If you are not a strong swimmer, we recomend joing our 2-Hour Guided Kayak Excursion. This sticks to the calmer, near shore waters.
+ How long do I have to rent to get free delivery to kailua/lanikai?
You must rent a kayak, sup or bike for a minimum for 3 days for free delivery. All other equipment can be added on including stand up paddle boards, kayaks, surfboards, bikes, beach chairs, snorkel sets, boogie boards and coolers can be delivered directly to your vacation rental.
+ What is the maximum weight that your kayaks can acccomodate?
With our wide variety of kayaks, we can accomodate almost any size paddler for both rentals & our tours.
For participants greater than 250lbs (113Kg) wanting to paddle in a single (1-person) kayak, a double kayak will be set up as a single kayak to accomodate the participant.
For a pair of participants wanting to paddle together with a combined weight over 400lbs (1481Kg), a triple kayak will be set up as a double kayak to accomodate the participants
+ Is there any cancellation or rescheduling fee for rental reservations?
There is no cancellation or rescheduling fee for rentals reservations as long as the reservation involves 7 pieces of equipment or less.
+ Are there any age restrictions to kayak rentals or tours?
Rentals All ages are welcome as long as they are able to swim or are comfortable floating in the water with a life jacket/PFD. Minimum 30 Lbs.
Guided Tours 2-Hour Kayak Tour: Minumum 8 yeaars old for group tours. Under 8 can book "Private-Group" tours.
5-Hour Kayak Tour: Minimum 13 years old for group tours. Under 13 can book "Private-Group" tours.
Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Particapants under 16 must paddle in a double kayak with an adult, 18 or older.
+ How do the kayaks and SUPs get transported to the beach?
We provide free carts in which participants can roll the kayaks to the beach (~5-10 minute walk) or free pads and straps if you wish to put them on your car
+ Are permits necessary to visit Flat Island or Moku Nui Island?
Yes. The Hawaii Dept. of Land and Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Division, manages these offshore islands as bird nesting sanctuaries. A $3/person/day permit is required for landing but can apply to both islands (Popoi'a and Moku Nui). Permits are included with all of our guided tours, lessons and self guided tours packages. Permits cannot be reserved or purhased in advance but are generally available when you check-in for your equipment. The DLNR regulary sends enforcement to the islands with fines costing as much as $1500 for not having a permit. With the permits only costing $3 per person, it's not worth the risk of not getting a permit.
+ Do I have to picked up in Waikiki for my self-guided/guided tour?
No. If you plan on driving (or walking!) yourself to our shop then you can arrive at 9am for most morning tours. Parking permits will be issued for people on self-drive tours.
