Volunteer with Kailua Beach Adventures

KBA volunteers at Second Saturday

At Kailua Beach Adventures, the ocean is more than our workplace — it’s our home, our classroom, and our responsibility. Every day we have the privilege of sharing the beauty of Kailua Bay, the Mokulua Islands, and Hawaiʻi’s incredible marine ecosystems with visitors from around the world. That privilege comes with a commitment to mālama ʻāina: caring for and protecting the land and ocean for future generations.

As an eco-tourism company, we believe tourism should leave a positive impact. That’s why volunteering and environmental stewardship are woven into everything we do. From beach cleanups and island restoration projects to wildlife education and partnerships with local conservation organizations, giving back is part of our company culture — not just something we do occasionally.

Why Volunteerism Matters in Eco-Tourism Healthy reefs, clean beaches, thriving wildlife, and protected ecosystems are the foundation of what makes Hawaiʻi special. Eco-tourism depends on preserving these natural spaces, not just enjoying them. At KBA, we see firsthand how small actions create meaningful change. Picking up marine debris, educating visitors about reef-safe sunscreen, reporting monk seal sightings, or helping restore native habitats all contribute to the long-term health of Kailua Bay and the surrounding islands

Volunteer Opportunities with KBA One of our easiest ways for guests to participate is through our Beach Cleanup Promotion. Visitors can receive a rental discount while committing to a short cleanup before heading out on the water. KBA provides buckets, gloves, and microplastic sifters to help remove debris from Kailua Beach. Island Restoration & Conservation Support KBA partners with Hawaiʻi’s Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to support restoration efforts on the Mokulua and Popoiʻa islands. Our staff regularly volunteer for cleanup and conservation projects while also donating equipment and transportation support.

How You Can Get Involved

Whether you’re a visitor, local resident, student, or traveler looking to give back during your Hawaiʻi vacation, there’s always an opportunity to help mālama Kailua. You can: Join a beach cleanup Participate in restoration efforts Support wildlife awareness Practice Leave No Trace recreation Help remove marine debris while kayaking or paddling Share environmental education with others At the end of the day, eco-tourism should help protect the places people come to experience. By volunteering, educating others, and caring for our environment together, we can ensure Kailua’s beaches and ocean remain healthy and beautiful for generations to come.
