Second Saturday

Protecting the Heart of the Aina

Kawainui used to be a beautiful, thriving fishpond that supported it community until colonization and neglect left it how it is today. The people at Kauluakalana have been hard at work trying to restore not only the fishpond but all of Ulupo. To aid in their efforts, they've been hosting community cleanups every second Saturday of every month.

What is Second Saturday?

Second Sartury is an activity hosted at Ulupo Heiau by the wonderful people apart of Kauluakalana. Every second Saturday, they host a community cleanup at varius areas of Ulupo: the Heiau, Kawainui, and more. It's a great way to get involved in the community, give back to the Aina, and meet new people.

Our Part

We strive to give back to our community and environment by participating and facilitating various cleanups. This past Saturday, 3 of our staff members participated in this months Second Saturday cleanup. They were able to partake in clearing weeds on top of the heiau as well as clearing debris out of Kawainui fish pond.
